Description
Doritos Taco Salad is a fun and flavorful twist on taco night, combining seasoned ground beef, crunchy veggies, crushed Doritos, cheese, and a creamy salsa dressing for a crowd-pleasing meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 package taco seasoning
- 1 head iceberg lettuce, chopped
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1 small red onion, finely chopped
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 bag (9.75 oz) Doritos, any flavor (Nacho Cheese is a popular choice)
- 1 cup salsa
- 1 cup sour cream
- Optional garnishes: sliced black olives, jalapeños, cilantro
Instructions
1. Cook the Meat: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until it’s fully cooked. Drain any excess fat and stir in the taco seasoning along with the amount of water recommended on the package. Simmer according to the package instructions, usually about 5 minutes, until the mixture is well combined and slightly thickened. Set aside to cool slightly.
2. Prepare the Salad Base: In a large salad bowl, combine the chopped lettuce, cherry tomatoes, bell pepper, and red onion. Add the drained black beans and toss everything together.
3. Assemble the Salad: Once the meat has cooled, add it to the salad bowl along with the shredded cheddar cheese. Crush the Doritos into bite-sized pieces and add them to the salad.
4. Add Dressings and Serve: Just before serving, add the salsa and sour cream to the salad. Toss everything together until the salad is evenly coated. Garnish with olives, jalapeños, and cilantro if using.
5. Serve Immediately: This salad is best enjoyed fresh, so the Doritos retain their crunch!
Notes
You can prepare all the salad components ahead of time and store them separately; mix everything together just before serving.
Feel free to substitute the ground beef with ground turkey or a plant-based alternative for a lighter or vegetarian version.
For a spicier kick, use a hot salsa or add hot sauce to the dressing mix.
