Description

Garlic Chicken Lo Mein is a quick and flavorful stir-fry dish made with tender chicken, crisp vegetables, and lo mein noodles tossed in a savory garlic soy sauce. A delicious takeout-style meal you can make at home in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 medium carrot, julienned
  • ½ cup sliced bell pepper (optional)
  • ½ cup sliced onions
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • ½ tablespoon fresh ginger, minced (optional)
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the lo mein noodles according to package instructions. Drain, rinse with cold water, and drizzle with sesame oil to prevent sticking. Set aside.

2. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and cornstarch slurry. Stir until smooth and set aside.

3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 5–6 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.

4. Add the remaining oil to the skillet. Stir in onions, garlic, and ginger (if using), and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.

5. Add broccoli, carrots, and bell peppers. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until vegetables are tender-crisp.

6. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Add the noodles and pour in the sauce. Toss everything together until evenly coated and heated through, about 2–3 minutes.

7. Garnish with chopped green onions, toss once more, and serve immediately.

Notes

To store leftovers, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.

Reheat in a skillet with a splash of water or soy sauce to revive texture.

Avoid overcooking when reheating to maintain the crispness of vegetables.

You can substitute lo mein noodles with spaghetti or rice noodles if needed.
