A quick, halal-friendly take on classic BBQ ribs using jackfruit or seitan for tender, tangy, and crispy results in under two hours. Perfect for weeknight dinners or backyard gatherings.
Ingredients
2 pounds halal substitute rib pieces (e.g., jackfruit or seitan)
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp white granulated sugar
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp crushed black pepper
½ tsp ground cumin
¼ tsp chili flakes (optional)
â…“ cup halal-friendly barbecue sauce
1 tbsp kosher salt
Instructions
Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C)
Pat dry 2 pounds of halal substitute rib pieces
Mix brown sugar, white sugar, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, cumin, chili flakes (if using), and salt into a dry rub
Apply the rub evenly to both sides of the rib pieces
Place ribs in air fryer basket and cook for 12-15 minutes
Brush both sides with halal-friendly barbecue sauce and flip
Cook for another 10-12 minutes until golden and crisp
Let ribs rest for 5 minutes before serving

Replace pork with jackfruit (halal) for a plant-based version
Use homemade BBQ sauce (molasses, apple cider vinegar, spices) to ensure no alcohol
Adjust spice level by skipping chili flakes or adding more
